BY TRAIN

The closest railway station to Cumberland Lodge is Egham station. There are fast trains from London (Waterloo) to Egham (not Windsor) approximately on the hour and half hour. Additional trains in the rush hour. Journey time approximately 30 minutes. From Reading and the west there is a direct service Reading-Egham. Egham station is 3 miles from Cumberland Lodge.

However, many participants may find it easier to take a train to Slough mainline railway station (well served by trains from London Paddington, Oxford and Reading) and then to take a taxi to the Lodge.

BY AIR

Heathrow Airport is about 10km from Cumberland Lodge. A minicab is the cheapest option (approximately 20 pounds) and should be booked in advance. A cab from the airport will otherwise cost roughly twice as much. A suggested minicab company is Windsor Cars http://www.windsorcars.com/ on 01753 677 677.

BY ROAD

From the North via M1: Follow the signs for the M25 at Junction 6. Leave the M25 at Junction 13 as described below.

From the Midlands via M40: Leave at Junction 4 (A404, Marlow and Maidenhead) and continue along A404 until it joins the M4 at Junction 9. See directions below for the approach via the M4.

From the West via M4: Leave M4 at Junction 6, Windsor. 3rd exit off roundabout to Windsor. 2nd exit off each of the next five roundabouts, following the signs for A308 Old Windsor/Staines. Drive through Old Windsor, pass "The Harvester" pub on the right, and turn right at mini-roundabout up Priest Hill. Turn right on brow of hill into Castle Hill Road and right at T-junction into Bishopsgate Road. See the "Final approach to the Lodge" at the bottom.

From London via the M4: Leave at Junction 4b and join the M25 following signs for Gatwick. Leave the M25 at Junction 13 as described below.

From London or the South via M25: Leave at Junction 13 taking the fourth exit off the roundabout which is signposted A30 Egham, Bagshot. The link road to the A30 crosses the Thames alongside the M25, joining the A30 at the Runnymede roundabout. Take 2nd (Bagshot) exit off the roundabout along A30 passing one more roundabout and climbing Egham Hill. At the top, just beyond the entrance to Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, there is a crossroads with traffic lights. Turn right into St Jude's Road, signposted A328 Englefield Green. At the end of Englefield Green (just past S-bend), turn left into Bishopsgate Road. See the "Final approach to the Lodge" at the bottom.

From the South via M3: Leave at Junction 3 signposted Bagshot, Bracknell. Follow signs for A30, London. Continue over level crossing at Sunningdale and the Wheatsheaf Hotel at Virginia Water. After a further 1.5 miles turn left into St Jude's Road (A328) to Englefield Green. At the end of Englefield Green (just past S-bend), turn left into Bishopsgate Road. See the "Final approach to the Lodge" at the bottom.

Final approach to the Lodge: At the end of this Bishopsgate Road, just past the "Fox and Hounds" pub, is the entrance to Windsor Great Park. If there is a warden on the gate, stop and let him know where you are going. If not, drive in. There is a sign to Cumberland Lodge at the crossroads just beyond. Turn left. After about half a mile there is another sign: turn half right for the Lodge.
